SOME ANSWERS TO COMMONLY ASKED QUESTIONS!

UNIFORMS
Dulles Montessori School is a strong advocate for uniforms. We encourage all our students to wear uniforms. Although it is an option for the pre kindergarteners, the Children enrolled in the Kindergarten program are required to wear uniforms daily except on Fridays. More information will be provided about the uniform selection in the summer.

DISCIPLINE
There are very few discipline problems in a Montessori classroom. Our classrooms are little communities and there are certain simple rules that enable everyone to live together peacefully. We like to refer to our environments as having "freedom within limits". If someone has hard time following the rules, we ask them to stop, refocus and return to when they are ready ---sometimes it takes 30 seconds, sometimes it is 30 minutes depending on the child. In extreme cases, we will meet with the parents and we work together to help the child. If we do not feel we, as a school are equipped to handle the situation, we will refer the parents/child to other professionals. We have a stated discipline policy in our Parent Handbook and adhere to it for the best interest of all children enrolled in our school.

TRANSITION TO PUBLIC SCHOOL
We find that they are very successful. It is a new situation, with a new set or rules and once they learn what the expectations are, they are just fine. Academically children are well prepared for any other type of school setting. Montessori education gives children the gift of "the love of learning" and it enables children to continually ask questions and seek answers.

PARENT PARTICIPATION
We do encourage parents to come and see what their children are doing at school. We have an "Open Door Policy" which means you can come to visit any time you wish. We request that you give us a month in September to help the children ease in to the classroom routines, get to know each other and the staff and begin to establish a work cycle. We invite visitors to come in for observation in mid October.

SNACK AND LUNCH.
At Dulles Montessori School, we are very conscious that nutritious foods enhance the performance and good health of your child. Our food program emphasizes whole grains, fresh fruits and vegetables, and a balanced selection from all food groups. Midmorning and mid-afternoon snacks are served. Children are provided two snacks (morning and afternoon) each day. Students can bring their own lunch or an optional hot lunch is available at the school. Please refer to the payment schedule if opting to buy lunch from the school.

TUITION REIMBURSEMENT
